Legs and Foot Pain: 3 Kinds of Neuropathy

What is Neuropathy? Pain, Burning, Numbness, Tingling

There are at least 3 kinds of neuropathic pain especially of those diagnosed with diabetes. There is peripheral neuropathy, proximal neuropathy and autonomic neuropathy. Although they have different names, they all affect the lower extremities. It is very important to know what kind of neuropathy a person has in order to arrive at the best treatment.

If are you feeling any shooting pain from your back to your feet, weakness in your legs muscles and tingling sensation in your soles, then you should come see us and have your nerves checked for neuropathy. Neuropathy that affects legs and feet may not be as serious as many think but just to be sure, you have to know what kind of neuropathy you have so you will know how to treat it.

Peripheral Neuropathy

Peripheral neuropathy is a kind of nerve damage affecting the long nerves going to the feet. If you experience a shooting pain from the lower back to the feet, you may be affected with this kind of neuropathy. The nerves going to the feet are damaged, and a lot of complications may happen on the feet of the patient. You may have infections of the feet and ulcers that can lead to amputations.

Autonomic Neuropathy

Autonomic neuropathy also affects legs and feet of the patient. The nerves of the autonomic nervous system become damaged which gives problems to different organs that are involved in autonomic processes such as digestion, pumping of the heart and breathing. It can also cause pain on the legs and feet.

Proximal Neuropathy

Proximal Neuropathy: People who feel that the muscles in their legs are becoming weak making it hard for them to walk and move their legs suffer from what is called proximal neuropathy or diabetic amyothophy. The muscles that are affected are those muscles in the upper part of legs, hips and buttocks.

Testosterone

Could Your Testosterone Levels Kill You?

The health effects of lower than normal Testosterone

A recent study in an endocrinology medical journal found that 80% of the 7,000 men tested had less than optimum testosterone levels. This leads to:

– Mild to moderate fatigue

– Lethargy and poor memory

– Tiredness, low stamina

– Low modivation, less competitive

– Abdominal weight gain

– Depression and moodiness

– Sagging physical abilities

Low testosterone can also kill you with an increased risk for premature death from cardiovascular disease, stroke and heart attacks. A Swedish study showed an inverse relationship in that low testosterone had higher mortality rates. Moderate low testosterone was noted to be less than 550ng/dl and low was 340ng/dl or less.

Stress causes increased cortisol which inhibits or switches off testosterone levels. Enough stress over a long enough time can actually kill the leydig cells that make testosterone.

Testing for low Testosterone

Blood tests are usually the first step to evaluate testosterone levels. The blood ranges for normal are very broad and do not account for low normal testosterone even when the numbers are in the normal range.

Saliva testing is better because it looks at the cortisol levels as well as other hormones.

Treatment

Just prescribing testosterone in a low normal testosterone patient is typically not as effect as it should be. If diet, nutrition, exercises, metabolism, and stress factors are not addressed than there is a strong possibility that the testosterone prescribed will aromatise in the abdominal fat cells and actually be converted to an estrogen which will make matters even worse. Blood tests are terrible in identifying aromatization which is why most doctors fail to help their patients with just a simple testosterone prescription.

The naturopathic approach of added testosterone, controlling aromatization (estrafication), diet and lifestyle changes is the best way to make a new man out of a fat, tired hound dog.

Insomnia

Tired of Counting Sheep?

Well the research is in on insomnia and poor sleep; and it isn’t good. The American Journal of Epidemiology found that poor sleep and a poor circadian rhythm was very unhealthy and eventually could kill you.

This article showed that poor sleep lead to a 74% increase in bladder cancer, 76% increase in lung cancer, 103% increase in colon cancer, 109% increase in rectal cancer, 127% increase in pancreatic cancer and 177% increase in prostate cancer.

In addition to cancer we also know that poor sleep contributes to hormone imbalances and weight gain as well as depression and a large number of other diseases. In fact, there is not one single condition that is helped or benefited by poor sleep and insomnia. The causes and treatment for insomnia is not as simple as take a pill and we will knock you out. It is a multifaceted approach of correcting hormones, re-balancing diet and stress as well as using several nutritional remedies.

Chiropractic for Wellness!

Chiropractic For Wellness!

Chiropractic is more than back pain relief, it’s the natural approach to whole body wellness.

Medical studies show that chiropractic is effective for headache, migraine, dizziness, and neck pain. Patients
with auto injuries, tinnitus, jaw disorders, fibromyalgia, and shoulder pain have also found relief with
chiropractic.

It can also be beneficial for conditions associated with aging like scoliosis, spinal degeneration, and
osteoarthritis in the knee, hip, and hands. By easing pressure on irritated nerves, chiropractic adjustments
can alleviate nerve impingement, radicular pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and sciatica. Chiropractic care can
also help with pregnancy-related pain and discomfort in addition to correcting dysfunctions in the sacroiliac
joint and pelvis.

And while chiropractic can relieve a number of pain conditions, it can also improve your overall health.
Research shows that spinal adjustments can reduce blood pressure, sooth stress hormones, and boost
immunity.
